This split release brings in a batch of four extremely entertaining pieces from Hal and Oxvac. Hal shows off absurd snare work in two achingly emotive and hyper, stylized jungle tracks reminding us that certainly more than one theme can be not only jam packed into a single joint but that the result can be meticulously balanced as well. Oxvac initially takes a more melodically driven route with a relentless drum kit whipping it forward. Along with the harmonically overloaded FM bass patches and low register arps that are now reliably Oxvac stock, the last piece especially surprises. The hyper edited chiptune-esque piece almost bleeds of the authentic sound of wiggling a loose RCA from a glitching SNES loading and looping random 16-bit data from the cartridge. I think we’ve been waiting for this track for almost 25 years.
